“Notas sobre el balcón” explores the concept of the balcony, starting from observation and coexistence in 138 Pujades street. From my balcony, I witness the social disconnection that characterizes us. In the midst of urban turmoil, I realize how we have lost the habit of socializing, of getting to know our neighbors and interacting with our community. We have enclosed ourselves in an individualistic bubble where everyone lives oblivious to others. As this research progresses, the concept of the balcony becomes the object of study in a somewhat obsessive way. Starting from the balcony as a mere architectural structure, exploring its connotations of power, and considering it as a space that transcends the boundaries between the public and the private, the intimate and the social.
This project reflects on these multiple facets of the balcony, integrating both detailed observation of the everyday environment and historical and cultural research. In addition, it seeks to create relationships between the members of our community, weaving ties through the intimacy of correspondences and fostering connection between inhabitants. It is an invitation to get out of the bubble in which we find ourselves and to try to understand and coexist with others. This publication is the compilation of months of research and experimentation, where languages are mixed and reflections are made without pretensions beyond being an everyday piece. It intends to be just that, an expression of admiration for everyday life.
This project wouldn’t have been possible without many people.
